Based at the Powerhouse Computer Centre, St. Aidan’s Church, 'Games and Planes' is an exciting two year oral history project to collect people’s memories of the Westcourt and former Gravesend Airfield (now the Riverview estate) areas from 1940 to 1950.
This was a formative period in the area’s development and the project is aiming to make contact with as many people as possible who remember life here during WWII and the five years that followed, be they pilots, residents, ground crew or children. The project aims to gather their recollections and stories however small or trivial they may seem. So whether you worked here, were at Westcourt School, lived here or just have recollections of the area, then the 'Games and Planes' project wants to hear your stories.
If you or someone you know remembers life here in the 1940's then contact the research team by:
The 'Games and Planes' team are also looking for volunteers to help with the project in a variety of ways. If you have a few hours a month to spare and think that you might like to get involved, please let us know via the contact details above.
The project is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. Read the funding announcement here.
