Welcome to the Powerhouse!
The Powerhouse Community Centre is located within St Aidan's Church building, St Aidan's Way, Gravesend.
In 2003 the Westcourt Community Forum asked local residents what community facilities they felt were needed. A lack of suitable buildings where community activities could take place was identified. So new community facilities were planned, to be located within the existing St Aidan’s church building but operating separately from the church. A new upper floor houses a fully equipped computer suite and the ground floor provides a flexible space for a variety of uses. New toilets, a fully equipped kitchen and improved lighting were also installed.
The Powerhouse took 8 months to complete and was officially opened on the 3rd September with a dedication service led by Bishop Brian Castle, Bishop of Tonbridge. The service was supported by St Aidan's congregation, many visitors from other churches in the area and the mayor and county councillors.
The facilities that come under the name of 'the Powerhouse' offer the local community new opportunities of meeting, sharing and learning – so come along and be part of it!
